The close-knit town of Matthews, NC is a suburb of Charlotte with it's own unique culture. The downtown area is a great place to be in the late afternoon and evening to have dinner and enjoy the historic areas. Everything is walkable down-town so it gives you a sense of community when you are there. The Matthews area is very safe for families yet, crime does exist in some area around the town. The Public schools in Matthews are rated amongst the best in the county, though the traffic near downtown can get very congested at times. Overall it is a great place to live for families!

I have lived in the town of Matthews my whole life. The schools that I have been to, the neighbors that surround me, and the local shops/restaurants that my family goes to have all been amazing! It is also a very safe community. There is no better place to live than Matthews NC!
Matthews has an overall friendly attitude. You walk into a store and people greet you, ask you about your day, and are definitely ready and willing to have a nice conversation. Very family friendly with movie theatres, ice rinks, trampoline parks, go-carting, mini golf, and honestly way more than can be listing forever. I never have a hard time entertaining visitors from out of state. Charlotte is constantly growing, so job opportunities are booming. My biggest concern is the public high schools. The public schools I have gone to and visited usually have a vibe of disrespect. It’s more than not wanting to go to school, like most teenagers, it’s like students are outwardly hostile to the people around them because of their environment.
