I love this town because I was born and raised here, however, there is a lot of room for improvement. There's alot of residential and business development potential, racial connectivity potential. But all of that means nothing without action. Historically, it has been very clear who lives where and who is engaged with whom. Opportunities are not the same for all residents of the city; therefore, a gap exists and it is imperative to close it and become the best small town in northeastern Ohio!
Massillon is an aging community that is getting older, poorer, and smaller. The city has always been a very tight-knit community. Their camaraderie has grown out of the cities love for their twenty-four time Ohio State Champion football team. However, our children are going off to college and receiving twenty-first century degrees, however there are no twenty-first century jobs to come home to. Massillon City Schools need to apply more concentration on their academics than they do their athletics. And it is time to pass the torch at city all to the next generation who would work to bring businesses to our city, as opposed to our life long politicians who are spinning their wheels just to collect a paycheck. We were once a Great City! We could be once again.
Even though I grew up in this town, I'd say there are some people that are not the friendliest. I've encounter multiple scenes of policemen having to come to my neighborhood, my mother was flipped off on the road, and one of my neighbors threatened to hurt my dog if they ever see my dog in their lawn again. Lately people have been refusing to wear their masks in public and I fear for my safety.
Not everyone is like this, I've met my close friends in this city. I've had made good memories too, the city is clean, they love to express their tiger pride, and love this town.
I still feel like this town can be more safe and show a good representation for the kids. Wear their masks, and be good to one another.
