Marion Reviews

I am a 35 year old female and have been trapped here my entire life, (Under one circumstance or another). It's a good place to raise YOUNG children, but as they get older they need to get out. Within the last 25 years; this town has went from Mayberry/Pleasantville type to one of the heroin and meth capitals of America. Industry has deteriorated, along with shopping choices. And don't let me get started on the schools, if you can avoid Marion City Schools, I suggest it; HIGHLY. I have had to put 3 children in MCS and 4/5 interactions are bad. Teachers & admins are just as immature as the students. Unless you want a factory job, try to avoid Marion. It's a black hole that will keep sucking the life out of you until you have nothing left.
I like that Marion can allow for close-knit communities at times. However, these close knit communities also come with their disadvantages; people are constantly judgmental and are almost hoping to see you fail. There are not many job opportunities and the overall cultural and social environment of Marion is stagnant and behind in its progression compared to other parts of America. It is a fairly safe place, but that is because the population is not very large. Marion, Ohio has a huge drug epidemic (one of the worst in the country, in fact), because there are so many individuals who feel that their lives are pointless here. There are no opportunities for a brighter future in Marion. There is little to no diversity, and as a Filipino-American, it has felt very isolating living here because of that.
Marion used to be thriving, and now it's not. I know they're rebuilding and all, but I still don't feel safe walking around alone (or even with another person). As it is, I would not want my future kids to grow up there. I really hope Marion can get back to the way it was, but for now I'm going to look into living else where.
