- Town in Indiana
Rating 3.14 out of 5 59 reviews
Marion is what one would expect when thinking of a small midwestern town. The one place that makes it stand out is Indiana Wesleyan University. This college plays a major influence there with some town events happening at the university. It is a great school with a phenomenal nursing program so most activity in the town is influenced by college students. Marion could improve in having better service in its restaurants and stores. This could be done by bettering work conditions to encourage people to work at their businesses.
Marion is surrounded by smaller, close-knit towns that are in the Grant County community. The hospital/medical care, school systems, local manufacturing, and universities contribute to the well-rounded nature of Marion. Downtown Marion has locally-owned restaurants, shops, and is constantly adding unique boutiques that add flair to a refreshed downtown scene. Housing is affordable and diverse to meet the needs of retired-age people, growing families, or young professionals. The local parks are amazing, especially the Garden of Matter Park (summer) and Walkway of Lights (winter). The faith-based community within Marion is thriving and represents several denominations. Community service groups and resources are abundant. The culture is diverse and celebrates what each individual contributes to make Marion an ideal place to live, work, and play.
I really like that there is a lot more diversity in this area compared to that of those in surrounding towns. I would like to see the city grow bigger in the industry in the future as more people get jobs and begin to create jobs as well.
Marion, Indiana is a good place to live if you are going to school there but if you want a job. The best place to go is either in Kokomo or Hamilton County. A lot of the jobs here are either working in fast food or working at the university/school systems. Besides that, there are not very many jobs available to choose from. Of course, we do have a hospital so many of the nursing majors from Indiana Wesleyan Universities go there to work during the school semesters. Besides jobs here the safety is something to consider as well. For example, in the past couple of weeks, there have been shots fired and soliciting. So even though there are things that are happening the police in Marion do care about the people. Another thing is there are always places that are lit up at night. Honestly, if something were to happen there would always be people around because of how lit everything is. Overall, Marion is really not a bad place people just need to be aware of the dangers that could happen.
I've lived here my whole life and it has its ups and downs but the last few years it has done nothing but grow. More restaurants and business are opening up. The schools are doing better.
Marion has great education opportunities at each level. We love Riverview Elementary. There are many small businesses. The downside is the crime/drugs but I do believe that is everywhere.
Marion has been through changes, with the mall closing and several abandoned houses and buildings being torn down. It has become a college town with small businesses slowly popping up. Marion needs more small, local business along with more activities for the youth.
It's a very diverse community, with many restaurants and stores to visit. The public schools provide lots of college opportunities and dual enrollment for high schoolers. We have the home campus for Indiana Wesleyan University, which is a beautiful and inspiring place to visit for all ages.
Marion is a special place. Although sometimes horrible things happen here there are places filled with love and caring people. People support people in hard times and are there no matter what. The place just needs to be cleaned up. I love my city but sadly it has became very dangerous with drugs and crime taking over. I hope that one day Marion can become safe.
This is a town where the phrase “home town feeling” hits the spot. Marion has aroung 28,000 people living in it of all sorts of walks of life. Along with it having a college in the town.
I am a student at Indiana Wesleyan University and while I enjoy living here, there are definitely cons. The generally safety and cleanliness are relatively low and there is a downcast feeling when you walk around the city.
I’ved lived in Marion since I was born. Marion provides almost all of the needs one could think of... I 100% recommend!
Marion is a small town where there are good opportunities to grow. I enjoy the schools. There are not many food options besides fast food and Mexican.
I love Marion because of the school that I attend there; the atmosphere on campus is amazing and very encouraging. A lot of the small businesses in town are very nice and I have built relationships with many shop owners that I frequently visit. Sadly, the economy is depressed in Marion and a lot of the town is in disrepair. I would love to see the people of Marion re-invest in their community to see the economy flourish in the future!
Marion, a rather diverse city, does not have a whole lot going on in their city. Marion has very little places to eat that are of good quality. Marion also can be a not safe place in certain areas. It is also not a very pretty or scenic town. It is mostly flat with some fields and not much to do or go see. Overall, marion is a boring indiana city that is not even very safe.
I have lived here for almost 3 years there's not much entertainment for kids as well as adults. Most of the good paying jobs you have to know someone to get them.
Marion overall is not the worst place in Indiana to live. It is in the middle of both Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, so if there is nothing to do around town, people usually go to either of these locations.
