Marion Reviews
Rating 3.17 out of 5 64 reviews
It was nice when I first moved here 22 years ago, but the city government is oppressive, the police denigrating, the drug problem overwhelming, the people who are left don't care about their properties enough to take care of them, and the legal system is corrupt. I only stay for a child I am waiting for, not going into details. The neighborhood I live in is SWATTED constantly, racism is rampant in Marion in all directions, more than in any other town I have ever lived in. If you decide to come here, be prepared for a very rough ride, and to lose everything you hold dear. I did. Many people are fleeing.
Going to school, I wanted to be in a community I feel safe in. Although the surrounding areas to campus can be sketchy at night for females, the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University located in Marion, Indiana is great!
Marion is surrounded by smaller, close-knit towns that are in the Grant County community. The hospital/medical care, school systems, local manufacturing, and universities contribute to the well-rounded nature of Marion. Downtown Marion has locally-owned restaurants, shops, and is constantly adding unique boutiques that add flair to a refreshed downtown scene. Housing is affordable and diverse to meet the needs of retired-age people, growing families, or young professionals. The local parks are amazing, especially the Garden of Matter Park (summer) and Walkway of Lights (winter). The faith-based community within Marion is thriving and represents several denominations. Community service groups and resources are abundant. The culture is diverse and celebrates what each individual contributes to make Marion an ideal place to live, work, and play.
