The public school system has a bullying problem that does not get dealt with. There is nothing to do in the town for children and people are not very kind. The beaches and parks are run down and dirty. We have needle clean up days that the public volunteers to do, which says a lot. The bar and drug scene is a huge thing here. Born and raised here and planning a move so that my kids have better. Definitely would not recommend this area for raising kids. Oh and don’t let me forget the local factory poisoning our land, water, and air with dangerous PFAs and the city officials couldn’t care less. We have some of the highest cancer rates due to this.
I do not like marinette, Wisconsin because as a whole it needs more options for families like more places to go to, some type of transportation like buses. The town is not diverse, so anyone who is not that race will have to work three times as hard. Marinette is a family oriented town. There is help that individuals can obtain, however if you are a single parent it will be harder for you than others because marinette is geared towards two parent households. Marinette is a small town it could use more sidewalks. The jobs that are out here are retail jobs, cleaning, and factory Jobs you might have to get a job in the town over in Menominee, MI for a more affordable job pay. If you do not have a vehicle you only have two options walk or spend you money on taxis .
I have lived here my entire life and my parents as well before me, and my grandparents. It is a safe town, very rare to feel unsafe anywhere or worried if you leave your car unlocked. It's gotten a little worse in recent years, like my sons bike being stolen out of our yard. But generally we have no worries. My 9 year old rides his bike around the neighborhood till dark with no worries and we have a real sense of community here. Small town. Not many options for stores. We drive to Green Bay for any shopping other than weekly needs. Small town with small minds in some ways. Not very diverse and the town knows everyones business. The marina is very nice and we have some OK parks. But on weekends there is not much to do. We find ourselves sometimes thinking about moving somewhere with our kids that offers more to do and job opportunities. It's a blue collar town and most families rely on someone who works in the foundry or at the shipyard. Those are the bankbone of this community.
