A small town only about 5-10 minutes from Monterey! There is a funny mix of college students from CSUMB and cute families. They have a small farmer's market every Sunday which is always fun to check out and the beach is super close! I adore all the little hole in the wall restaurants, they have some great, Poke, Vietnamese food, Japanese food, and Korean food. Living there is relatively cheaper than some other areas which are easy to get to if you want more things to check out! Overall I say it is worth living in Marina if you need affordable housing in the Monterey area.

Marina is a small town where most everyone knows everyone. Most residents are multi-generational and come from the older military days when Fort Ord was open. This has created a very diverse demographic. I’ve lived here for the better part of 25 years, and although it is a bit slow-paced, it’s a great place for raising kids. Since the college CSUMB came along, the population has grown a lot. It’s full of diverse residents, restaurants, markets, and businesses. The crime is not too bad, although there has been an increase in petty crimes like theft, car theft, sadly a lot is due to the increase in meth use. Not just here but nationwide. Half of the “original” marina is older homes and stores. The “newer” part of marina is million dollar homes and gentrified stores. There’s a lot of extracurricular activities for kids which gives families a wonderful sense of community. Most the parents grew up together and have known each other for decades.
Marina is a great small town to be in. It has plenty of nice schools, and friendly faces around the town that you can definitely make friends with. One of the highlights of Marina is how it is essentially a great central location in California. You're only a few hours drive away from many spots in California, such as Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, and all the other popular spots. You're basically at a great spot to be in, if you want to experience what California has to offer.
