Marathon is great for fishermen, boaters, and the elderly. There is very little to do around town unless you're out on the water. The dining options are very limited. You will find yourself cooking at home a lot if you want to keep up any type of meal variety. DO NOT raise a child here! The schools are sub-par at best, and there are very few attractions for kids. Marathon does have some pros though. Also, the town looks generally ugly and run-down. The water is very beautiful and easily accessible. There are many houses on canals for boat access to the Gulf and the Atlantic. The seafood is also amazing. The people are also very friendly.

They say you can't be any more relaxed than when you're in the Keys, and that holds up really well! I've been to most of the Florida Keys, including Key West, but I prefer Marathon over any other Key because of the peacefulness it brings. It's way more relaxed than key West, which is more hectic these days. There are plenty of local restaurants and hotels to eat and stay at, and the seafood is always fresh. There's plenty of aquatic-based activities, and the weather is usually perfect. An underrated Key for sure!
Great location in the heart of the Florida Keys. It is only a 2 hour drive from Miami but feels like your in the Caribbean. Marathon has some of the best fishing and diving just off its shores on both the ocean and gulf sides of the island. The community is a small town feel but offers many amenities for locals and tourists alike. The restaurants, which are majority locally owned and operated offer some of the freshest and best seafood along with the perfect beverage. Marathon can cater to families or couples looking for a getaway. The heart of the keys are waiting for you to explore.
