Its overall a nice family friendly town. However, the roads are very flat, and there isn't much to do out here. The mall is just barely hanging on and job opportunities are average to low out here. There really isn't any growth opportunities. If you go to the next town over in Orland Park, everything is super expensive. But if your looking for more of a booming area then that's where to look.
I grew up in Bradley about 8 miles away from Manteno and moved to Manteno about 10 years ago. I love Manteno it's the perfect little town. It's right off of I-57, rt 45 and rt 50. It's about an hour south of Chicago. Unfortunately jobs that pay more than $12.00 an hour or difficult to find in Kankakee county. So if you work up north like myself coming home to Manteno is perfect. If has all your basic small town needs. Grocery store, restaurants, gym, antique mall, etc. They also have alot or community events and the people are generally friendly. Crime is low and the law enforcement in the area do their best to patrol the area and stop by local businesses as well.
I think Manteno is a cozy little town that has a homey feel to it. Although it is a growing town, it is still small enough that everyone feels like they know each other. The people of Manteno are so nice and the businesses in Manteno deliver great customer service. It is a great little town to raise a family and build a life. I have lived here for two years now, and I have no plans of leaving. It will always feel like home to me. It is also a very safe community as the police officers and emergency personnel genuinely care about the people of Manteno.
