Manitowoc Reviews
Rating 3.51 out of 5 89 reviews
Yes, the scenery is very good but basically everything closes at 4:00pm except restaurants so if you don't get there the day before and plan you aren't going to do very much, Many of the waterside areas are run down including many docks that are noon condition to walk on. Other than that there as very basic attractions but there is three that stand out including the marina and the maritime museum aswell as the lighthouse which is pretty run down but still cool. Good town to visit as long as you get there a couple hours before 4 and plan the day before. Schools are Amazing looking never been in them though, Roads are uppity and in good nick comparing to where I come from but comparing to another city of similar size roads are pretty laid back and good, local traffic driving style is questionable, like I said pretty much everything closes at 4pm so nightlife is terrible, traffic is worse during earlier parts of the day. Local Hotels are good from what I've seen.
Overall, Manitowoc is a safe place to live. It has an engaging community and the Manitowoc public library usually has events going on for ages all around. The farmers market is such a great place to go during the summer. There is a variety of things that people sell from freshly grown vegetables to vintage items. There are many volunteer places around the area like Peter's Pantry. Right now, the real estate market price is high and there are many houses going up for sale. There is generally a good diversion of races but in schools, there is usually more diversity in the south side than the north side. There are many opportunities for kids and teens like clubs. Manitowoc is a growing community and starting a family here is a good idea.
All I can say is try to move outside of Manitowoc and drive into the town for work rather than subject your family to the crime that has enveloped Manitowoc.
I have lived in Manitowoc on and off over the past decade.
I would say if you are looking to move here and you have a family Do Not Do It.
Over the past 2 years there has been a radical shift in diversity which in its self is not a bad thing, but with this shift crime and drugs have sored sky high in the county with no realistic plan by the mayor or the various law enforcement agencies that have had a myriad of ethical problems in the past as well.
While this seems to be in the past it still leaves them with Damaged credibility in the community today causing distrust and only adds to the difficulty of combating the rising levels of violent drug fueled crime that now runs freely on the streets of Manitowoc County today.
