I love that Macon is working on being more culturally aware. It is a small town but it has a rich history which you can get to know about if you take the time to do so. I would recommend visiting the Tubman Museum which has great customer service and also the GA Sports Hall of Fame. There are several colleges in the area as well so you can always meet new people and if you attend "First Friday" you can get a taste of the night life. It is very easy to network if you attend events in the area. And don't forget about the food! There are many tasty restaurants to eat at downtown and you don't have to break the bank to do do either!

Grew up going to a private school in north Macon. It was a good experience, but there wasn't too much to do outside of the new mall. Moved back after college, and it's a different feel. There are some cool neighborhoods. I love Vineville and Ingleside. Enjoy the Fresh Market, Natural Market and restaurants like Fountain of Juice and El Camino. Downtown is growing- Just Tapp'd and Reboot are a few favorites- and the city is working hard to revitalize. Still, the scene for 20-somethings is weak. Try to go out and meet people but it's mostly college kids or 30+. Downtown is spread out and isn't always the safest. Looking to move soon, but a pro is that Macon is close to cute other towns like Milledgeville and Athens. Only 1.5hr from Atlanta.
My experience here in Macon is decent. There isn't much to do here except for when the Georgia National Fair is in town. Recently, the city began whats called "First Friday"; on the first Friday of every month the night life is available to enjoy up to around 3 am. The transportation system seriously needs upgrading from vehicles to hours to service areas.
In closing, if you're born and raised here I suppose the southern hospitality here is the norm, however, if you're originally from the north as I am. You'r certainly going to be disappointed. Personally, I can't wait to be in a better position financially to relocate as far away as possible.
