Los Altos California is a wonderful place to live, and especially to raise children! It is safe and the people are usually very kind. The community areas like Downtown Los Altos are very quaint and have many local shopping opportunities. The schools here are also amazing, and provide so many resources to the students. Although, if you are someone who likes a more busy night life, this is not the place for you. There are very few places that are open after around 10PM. Also the housing market is very expensive.
Los Altos is definitely more white than many cities in the San Francisco Bay Area, but from my experience, everyone has been inclusive and accepting. I visit the downtown very often but there is not a lot to do and it is mostly filled with local restaurants and shops for a more down-to-earth feel. There is virtually no nightlife but Mountain View is very close by. The area is expensive and the houses and architecture are very beautiful, but expensive to live in. There are many healthy options so living healthily is not a problem unless you are financially strapped.
Los Altos is a small, relatively wealthy neighborhood outside of San Jose, CA. I really like my location, we are very near to a lot of families we know through high school and middle school. I attended a private school, but the city and neighboring cities are well known for their public school educations. There is a mix of all ages in the city and inclusive to all. If I were to make changes, I would suggest sidewalks to put in all neighborhoods to increase safety on the streets as well as speed bumps in neighborhoods. Los Altos is very hilly, and I think changes could only benefit the safety of residents and visitors.
