I enjoy being close to the mountains but in a town that is more affordable than Boulder. It is a relatively safe area but night life is not eventful. Luckily it is close to cities that have a active nightlife. I love being able to get to Estes in 45 minutes from my area and being able to get to work and school conveniently as well. My favorite thing is the local farmers market on Saturday mornings. It’s on the fairgrounds and is big! I enjoy waking up Saturday mornings and getting groceries for myself and supporting local farmers. I would love to see the city develop and improve the downtown area.
Longmont has some nice aspects and some not so nice aspects. Longmont has a great school district with our K-12 system graduating some amazing people as well Longmont has great access to Boulder, Fort Collins, and Estes Park which makes a good area to live in if you don't have to pay premiums of living in any of those places. That being said Longmont has kind of lost it identity in my opinion because now city officials are trying to turn into a metropolis when in actuality the city isn't nearly large enough to support that. As well the city is very boring for some in their late teens such as myself because all the venues have become micro brewers which are of no benefit to us as well there is nothing to do. We also have had cruising banned which is ironic because Longmont was nationally recognized for being one of the best places to cruise as well it was a huge attractant for people to spend money which in turn helps the city.
Some wonderful, small, locally owned businesses in old town Longmont that offer a decent variety of cuisines and beverages. Quick and easy access to hiking, biking, camping, and a short drive to Denver. Everything tends to close around 9-10 pm most nights. Mostly a progressive town interested in human rights and equality/equity with demonstrators usually gathering in groups of 10-30 on Main and 6th. Overall, Longmont is a friendly and charming alternative to Boulder housing prices.
