Good school due to industry taxes. Otherwise, Lockwood is far from beautiful. It's 3 miles of interstate frontage is the ugliest blight in the state, and that same industrial tax base means acres of ugly truck dealers/stops, car crushing/recycling facilities, and massive oil refineries. It does have some new subdivisions, but the "locals" mostly resent this and wave their middle fingers at new developments. Lockwood mostly consists of trailer parks/dilapidated houses among industry. Poverty is prevalent. It is close enough to Billings that it will eventually come around and the infrastructure will eventually improve, but it will take decades, as the native residents have voted time and again NOT to have anything to do with Billings and vote against anything that might raise their taxes a few cents. Nice location, could be naturally appealing, and infrastructure will eventually improve, but not in our lifetimes.

Lockwood is just a suburb of Billings but it is the one in which I grew up. I may be biased but I'm the type of person you want to hear from when looking at a neighborhood. Lockwood was my stomping ground. I knew where all my friends houses were and how to get to each safely. Lockwood Elementary and Middle school prepared me for my future education by the enthusiasm of the teachers I had. I have currently moved away from Lockwood for college but my family still lives there. The look of Lockwood has changed for the better over the years. New school additions, a new fire station, and new housing have expanded Lockwood into a great place to live. Lockwood square is a fun hangout since you will eventually know everyone who works there. Most everything you need is in Lockwood. The abundance of friendship and a great community will bring me back to Lockwood after college and to raise a family!
It is not a bad place to live, I have lived here my whole life. The new businesses that are coming in are helping our small community to become more self independent, but we still have to leave town for basic necessities. Newer housing developments are coming in and with that, more people are moving out here. A lot of the original homes are falling into neglect because the newer homeowners do not want to take the time to fix them up to their former glory. The only real stand out thing about our community is our school. Lockwood Schools has been a high ranking school for many years. It has great teachers and staff that really care about the well-being of its students. It is hands down the best school in the area for education.
