While working and having relatives in Livermore, I have became familiar with the area. Livermore is known to be one of the most popular wine regions in California. The local wineries are great for social gatherings! It's also very family oriented with great hiking trails and other outdoor activities for family outings. One of my favorite venues is Del Valle State Park, which fantastically ran and well kept facility that I have come across. Del Valle is a favorite outing not only from the local residents but from people around the Bay Area. Another fantastic option of Livermore consists of Downtown scenic communal area known as "First Street." It has a wonderful and variety of different store boutiques as well amazing food at the local restaurants. The restaurant options include BBQ, Italian, Japanese, Chinese Greek, Thai, & other diverse options. Life - whether it would be living or visiting Livermore it is overall a pleasant experience!
I've been here 24 yrs. It has vastly improved over that time but is still kinda bleh. Outdoor life here can be fantastic: MTB terrain, hiking, nature preserve, huge cycling and running scene. But you can only get out in the "rainy reason" (when we get our 7-12 inches of rain--winter). The summers are hot and everything dies and turns brown for 7+ months. Town life isn't bad. Two Farmer's Markets, a thriving craft beer and winery scene, great coffee shops. There's a decent mix of restaurants but after several years you've eaten at all of them a million times. There's a weird mix of PhD scientists, cowboys, young professionals/families, seniors. Leans liberal but there's a vocal RED population. The schools are mediocre by Bay Area standards. They seem safe but not academically challenging and heavily focus on sports. Basically it's the kind of town where men wear tank tops and crocs to decent restaurants, and tons of moms still stay home, live through their kids and get fat.
I moved to Livermore with my family 5 years ago and couldn't be happier. It has a small town feel compared to other cities in the Bay Area which is what drew us to Livermore in the first place. We feel its the perfect place to raise a family and set roots. It has a very cute historic downtown that feels very welcoming with plenty of good restaurants, and you're minutes away from beautiful parks and trails if you want to just be out in nature. Also, if you're a wine enthusiast there are over 50 wineries in the Livermore Valley with stunning estates; perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and a beautiful view.
