Lexington has a great small town feel with a growing food and entertainment scene. The Lexington County Blowfish baseball team is a great summer past time, and the lake access is nearby. The school systems are among the top in the state. The influx of new home being built has created some significant traffic issues however, and creating alternate secondary routes and limiting high flow commercial development at key points until these issues are resolved could certainly help.
I'd say Lexington is best for families looking for a nice area to live in, or those who aren't interested in the party/city scene, but would still like to be near some fun activities and have quick access to a wide variety of stores, restaurants, sports activities, and events. Within Lexington itself, the downtown area has been developing nicely and now even boasts an amphitheater. There is a decent small/local business scene, and commutes (depending on what area of town you're in and where your job is) are moderate. Because of its proximity to Columbia, it's easy to find something fun to the there if you're not up for anything in town.
Lexington SC is an average town where there are good neighborhoods, schools, and job opportunities in a healthy distance from the suburbs. My complaint would be that there are far too many fast food restaurants and not nearly enough sit down restaurants. The town is planned poorly. Half of Lexington is composed of all the good restaurants, stores, and shops, while the other half only has unhealthy fast food places. Lexington is a very wide spread county, and as someone who lives on the "boring" side of Lexington, it takes around 15 - 30 minutes to drive to a place to eat that isn't McDonald's or Arby's. There are no activities in town, which turns many teenagers to drugs because there's nothing else to do. It is a good place to live if you want safety. The schools are great, there is no street violence, it's cheap to live in and there are many job opportunities for those looking to start a career or family.
