When asked about what I liked about Lawrenceburg, the first thing that popped into my head was how closed-minded the people are about minorities. Generally, diversity is poor in Lawrence County, which I believe adds to the slight racism that festers there. On a different topic, for how poor our county is, the school system tries their hardest in giving us the best learning space that they can provide. The teachers are generally friendly and knowledgeable, except for a few exceptions, but that is anywhere. To wrap it up on a good note, the people here tend to be more polite then what one might expect in a small-town, but I believe with time, everyone will become more accepting of those that don't fit into a particular box in society.
I recently located back to the area, and Lawrenceburg is has changed so much just in the last five years. The old school way of thinking is finally phasing out as more younger folks are becoming some of the major players and making their voices louder to make things happen. It is such a great place to raise a family with fantastic schools and so much to do for such a small town. It really is such a lovely little place to live that is growing and improving at a rapid rate. Many employers are having trouble finding local people to work, so there are plenty of jobs available for those truly interested. I'm not sure where the crime and safety data is coming from, because this is a very safe place to live. I love calling Lawrenceburg my home town and am so grateful that I was fortunate enough for my move back to work out. I would love to see more nightlife, diversity, and arts, but I expect that is coming with all of the recent improvements coming into play.
Due to being mainly a retirement community, there are many older beliefs as well as ways of thinking. Anyone born prior to 1995 would likely fit in, and older folks would likely fit in better.
Unfortunately also due to being a retirement community, many of the residents' children have moved here, and have easy access to the elderlies' medications, which in turn allows the grandchildren easy access. Drugs are a fairly large issue, and have been for as long as I have been here (about 13 years now.)
