A few years ago, I went with a friend to the popular tourist Boulevard in Lawrence, where all the shops are, and put a few quarters into the meter. 10 minutes later we came back to the car to move it a block down and I noticed a citation on our windshield. But I also noticed citations on every car on either side of my car. I tried to look for the police car that was doing this. We were only gone for ten minutes, so I realized it was a racket. The citation gave no address or phone # to contact. I didn't want to experience any legal trouble for not mailing $2.00 in the provided envelope. What the ticket cops are doing there is illegal. Its a criminal way to make money. Its called fraud! I have not returned to Lawrence since, and I will never go back and visit it again.

The city of Lawrence has been one of the most rewarding cities I have ever lived in. Lawrence is a stone's throw away from Kansas City, so there is never a dull moment or a night to be wasted. As a college student, my weekends can either be attending a sporting event in Lawrence or travel less than 30 minutes to see a sporting event in Kansas City. Lawrence has some of the kindest and most accepting people you will ever meet. Mass Street is full of wonderful tastes, interesting sights, and wonderful people. I cannot rave about this town enough!
Youth, education, and diversity: the defining traits of Lawrence, Kansas, a town which boasts the University of Kansas and so much more. When you visit, take a walk around the lovely KU campus, purchase locally-grown fruit at the Famer's Market, explore the Prairie Park Nature Reserve, and eat ice cream at Sylas and Maddy's. Learn about the town's abolitionist history. Above all, enjoy the diversity of beliefs, backgrounds, and ethnicities which KU brings to the town (setting Lawrence apart from much of Kansas).
If you find yourself in the Midwest, Lawrence deserves your visit-- and who knows? You may fall so in love with Lawrence that you follow in the footsteps of many KU students and, though you intended to simply pass through, decide to stay awhile.
