Lawndale, has many positive attributes to it. It's close to Redondo Beach and Torrance, which are both nice affluent cities with much to offer entertainment wise. The rent/mortgage here is not as high as its surrounding counterparts, yet it maintains most of their luxuries. It is usually not too hot or cold here, it is the west coast of course. However, there is a lot of homeless and drug addicted people wandering the off ramps of freeways, and bushy areas in parking lots. There is a lot of petty theft and attempted theft and robberies, and police are usually slow to respond. The cost of rent, the whether and the close proximity to affluent neighborhoods with bustling shopping centers and sought after eateries, helps the score of our little neighborhood. It is also very close to LAX airport as well as decent proximity to Downtown Los Angeles. I would recommend to a middle class couple or family, but I would suggest to use the low(ish) rent to save and move to a nicer and safer place.
Lawndale has certain areas that are clean and beautiful homes. However, one block away, the houses and streets are horrible! I blame this on too many renters and the Landloard’s not doing enough to assure their property remain clean, yards are kept to a manicured lawn, and people pick up after themselves. The city must start ticketing households who do not take care of their houses. There is no excuse. As for liquor stores in every corner, actually there are not that many. It’s no different that “breweries” in affluent neighborhoods. The city is strict with liquor license that they shut down the proposal of a Rock and Brews in Lawndale CA. Now, the cost of housing has gone ridiculously up. These houses are being marketed towards $700 to $800. You might as well save more money and buy something in Torrance or Redondo beach. These houses are actually worth $300K to $450K.
From 2000 to 2010, Lawndale remained a relatively peaceful neighborhood with little to no conflicts between neighbors. However, the most recent decade has made apparent the economic struggles of most individuals who live in Lawdndale as reflected by the conditions of the schools and the community's involvement with each other in general.
