Laurel Reviews
Rating 4.06 out of 5 16 reviews
The vibe in Laurel is relaxed, reflecting a bit more blue-collar presence compared to other suburbs of Richmond.
Laurel is divided into 4 sections by its two main thoroughfares: Staples Mill Road and Parham Road. The west side is where one finds corporate, hospital, and county government infrastructure. The east side is the main residential part of Laurel.
Laurel’s location gives good access to major commuter corridors and amenities nearby. Laurel is a convenient place for people who own a car, but gets a low score for walkability.
Laurel is one of the better locations around Richmond that still offers affordable homes. The housing stock has many late-1940’s to 1980’s houses favoring traditional styles. There are few large neighborhoods in Laurel. Gentrification is not a big thing in this part area, yet – but you may find home rehabs happening by the one-sies and two-sies. House hunters should look for properties south of Parham Road and west of Woodman Road.

Very few problems in this neighborhood.
Very close to the Police station, so you do see cops frequently. Very safe, I (a single female) can walk my dog late at night and still feel safe.
