Las Cruces Reviews
Rating 3.76 out of 5 564 reviews
Las Cruces is a small town despite being the second largest in New Mexico. In terms of recreation, there is not much to do. NMSU is a peaceful university so that is nice. The town is quiet and a much safer option than Albuquerque. It gets very hot here in the summer and rarely snows. The majority of the residents are retirees and immigrants from various countries. I am Brazilian and surprisingly there is a small (over 20 people) community living here which was much more than I expected. Although Las Cruces seems a bit empty, it was developed so much since I moved here in 2010. I expect that the unemployment rate will shoot down and we might even become a slightly higher-income city! I would love to see a Costco one day, who knows?
We have a mixed opinion of Las Cruces having retired here three years ago. The cost of living is a huge plus if you come from either coast. Housing and taxes are very reasonable. The people in general are very friendly.
That said, if you have children be aware the school system in this state is one of if not the worst in the country. This in itself has led to a lack of medical professionals that makes medical care here sub-par in spite of having three hospitals that they cannot properly staff. Also, the restaurant situation here is awful. There are more Mexican restaurants then you can count and not much else. Politically, this town is one hundred percent democrat as is the whole state in spite of a large military presence. If your looking for a peaceful place to live or retire with few demands then Las Cruces isn't a bad place to be. No snow to speak of but beware the summers can be brutally hot and over one hundred degrees for weeks at at time.

The city has lots to do weekly, such as the farmers market, weekly fairs, events, and diversity program events. I like how everyone here likes to help others, at least in terms of creating a safe and inclusive environment. It's a good place to find active activities like sports, hiking, and biking. And this place is great for those that are blind or need further navigation accommodations, at least near the university.
