I just moved to La Porte and so far I’ve enjoyed the many features the city has. The neighbors seem friendly, the neighborhood is quiet/peaceful, the city is clean and well taken care of. We were welcomed with chocolate chip cookies when we first moved in and I was completely baffled but also pleasantly surprised since I only ever thought people did that in Hallmark movies. I never thought I would live so close to the beach, however the wind that it brings is unmatched. You see many people taking a walk in the mornings and evenings, saying Good Morning as they pass. It seems like a safe, everybody gets along with everybody, community. There’s kids playing outside in the parks, riding their bikes, and just enjoying the summer . There is traffic mostly during leaving work hours as one would assume however, other than that, traffic isn’t as bad. This city has been a breath of fresh air to live in so far and I am glad we made the decision to move to La Porte.
There have been recent changes that are affecting the community. There has been a push to open more warehouses for transporting goods however the result for this is that there are more 18-wheelers in the area. The traffic has gone up and the roads are taking a toll. It is not as safe as it used to be driving around the area since 18-wheelers take back roads that are only for locals and are only allowed certain road access. There has been more development in terms of shopping and more. There is a new gym, grocery stores, and restaurants that are good for the community though again the downside is that most of it are affected with the development of more warehouses.
While La Porte has a population of over 35,000, everyone seems to know everyone. It has a great community. Most people that went to La Porte High School have stayed in this area, so they still show their Bulldog pride by supporting LPISD. Our community is also very involved our local churches and love supporting our local small businesses!
