Kirtland is a small town on the outskirts of the Navajo Nation. Though I did not grow up in Kirtland, I attended school here. All through kindergarten and high school, the Kirtland community, though admittedly small, provides a fair support system through academics. However, I will note how Kirtland struggles to maintain interesting community activities and lacks genuine volunteer involvement. Overall, I attended school in Kirtland because it's definitely superior when compared to my original hometown, Shiprock.
Kirtland is small. Everyone knows everyone. The elementary schools are excellent, especially Judy Nelson Elementary. The high school, however, has some issues. The entire community will rally around sports, but most other extracurricular activities lack recognition.
Lived in the community for 20 years. Quiet and short drive to nearest town. Beautiful Golf Course and wonderful hiking opportunities.
