Lived here for a year when I was young & in fifth grade. What I liked was that I attended contentnea magnet, we went on major field trips; one of which was the battleship all the way in Wilmington ! We rode a huge travel bus with tvs and it was a great funded big school, they seem to have a good education system besides the fact that there isn’t a lot of community activities . We lived in an apartment complex behind a nursing home that my mom worked at , a Mormon church was across the street, but nothing much of anything else , it had a piggly wiggly and a bojangles, but when I left I never missed the location. I had lived in knightdale which is the next town beside Raleigh , I wouldn’t recommend raising kids in kinston even though the decent schools. They will go stir crazy living here. I wasn’t old enough to acknowledge the crime, but I can see it being that way
My experience in Kinston has been quite a journey. I was born in Kinston, NC. I attend school in Kinston from grades Kindergarten to getting my Associates Degree in Applied Sciences in Medical Office Administration with Certificates in Office Systems Technology. What I like most about Kinston is the change that is coming to the city, the scenery is changing, and most importantly more opportunities coming to the city. I would love to see the housing market change for the better giving people opportunities to afford and own homes. I also would love to see the education system strengthen for the youth in the city giving them better and more opportunities.
I live in Kinston as I was unhappy with the review that stated that the people here are not friendly. That is not true. Not only are they friendly, the city is diverse and somewhat liberal. The cost of housing is more affordable than surrounding areas. They even have family type things to do here. Community centers, minor league baseball, movie theater, bingo, dog park, and a small park where you can RV or tent camp. The shopping is standard to most places. Please stop by.
