It’s a small town and almost everyone knows about everyone and there’s not much to do but go eat and watch the sunset down at the waterfront, sounds boring but it’s a beautiful sight to see. When I moved down here I was so scared because there was only one high school — In the how county — that’s crazy! Since I am black an gay it’s a little hard being down here because it’s the south with homophobic and racist students. Though I did find my best of friends here and a great community that loves me for who I am so for that I am grateful for good ole Kingsland, Camden county. I would love to see more representation of queer groups like clubs in school, I am actually working with another student to make a LGBTQIA’s+ club so other students can have a safe space and a community to lean on; it’s been hard getting it to pass through but I’m confident we can do it!
I love living in Kingsland! I live off of Hwy40 which is the main road that runs through town. There’s Starbucks, zaxbys, Marshall’s, planet fitness, Publix, a library, a tattoo shop, and lots of other food/stores. There isn’t anything I would change, I’m very content with kingsland!
Kingsland is a very quaint, small town. The College of Coastal Georgia is fantastic! There are quite a few houses for sale. Many rentals are extremely high priced. There are some affordable options available. There are a lot of Historical landmarks in the county. Until April this year you can apply for a Homestead Exemption on your property taxes. That will save you thousands. Once you qualify for that exemption you will have it for the entire time you have your home here. Cumberland Island National Seashore is must a short ferry ride away from nearby St. Marys, GA. Crooked River State Park is also nearby and offers camping spots for motor homes or tents. The Kingsbay Naval Submarine base is located in nearby St. Marys, GA. There are a whole ton of great fishing spots, piers and deep sea fishing options. There are multiple, award winning, golf courses. The school system is ranking pretty high in comparison to many other locations in the country.
