Keyser is a more laid-back kind of town. While there is not a whole lot to do in town, Cumberland MD is about 20 minutes down the road which provides shopping and other amenities. There are several places to enjoy good food and the school systems here are terrific. Close to things, yet far enough away. "The Friendliest City" in America!

I was born and raised in Keyser, all of my family lives in the town. There are not many job opportunities in Keyser and many people commute over an hour to find a decent paying job. There is also not much for the younger generation to do, which is unfortunate because it is a college town. Keyser natives do all know each other which has both pros and cons. Typically everyone will know everyone's business, but at the same time when tragedy strikes members of the town tend to band together to help raise money or help a family down on their luck. Keyser will always have the feeling of "home" to me, and because of that I always go back. People are working toward bringing more opportunity into the area, including tourism because it is located along the Potomac River. The town has potential, it just needs someone to put effort into it.
Small town with little advancement opportunity. High drug area with traffic, abuse and overdoses. There is very littke to do around this town for entertainment. You have to travel to Maryland or Virginia for better paying jobs. Minimum wage is the most commom pay in this area. Poverty is everywhere you look.
