Hi all! If restaurants, bars, and clubs in a small town setting is your thing, then JC is for you. JC is also completely surrounded by some of East TN greatest nature spots, Buffalo Mnt, Roan Mnt, Carvers gap, Laurel falls and the Devils bathtub just to name a few. There is some awesome lakes, ski towns, and water sport opportunities nerby. Plus it's centrally located. Downside, JC does not have much to offer in terms of alternate entertainment. It has its own movie theater and mall but nothing like mini golf, large gaming arcades, or elite shopping experiences.

I grew up in Johnson City and couldn't wait to get out. But, the city has grown so much in the past 10 years that now I can't wait to go back! It has a handful of craft breweries and really good restaurants. Vegans/vegetarians have a handful of dining options as well. My favorite part of the city is the amount of outdoor activities within 20-40 minutes of walking out the door - hiking, mountain biking, running, skiing, white water activities, lake activities, etc. The people are warm and there's hardly any traffic. The city is making efforts to revitalize downtown and make the outdoors more accessible than they already are. It's no wonder that more young professionals are moving to JC!
The only population who seem to be thriving here are retirees. Because the pace is slow and stuff is 'Cheap'.
There are a few small bright spots in this area, but overall it lacks so much I cannot wait to leave.
There's a lack of professionalism in every field and corner of the city.
Want to eat all the time and be a piggy and drink beer non-stop while your child bops around? Cool you'll fit in here...just don't spend too much time downtown because you'll start to notice the sketch people who are bused in from all over the states. Yep that's a true fact. Whats worse is they love it here mainly due to numerous Clinics and endless supply of paint killers + free meals from churches who do their best to take care of the these people who don't stop flooding in.
