There is nothing to do here, unless you want to eat fast food or go to church. There are minimal employment opportunities other than retail and fast food jobs. Most of the stores in the "mall" have closed and the surrounding area has minimal retail shopping. You have to drive to Birmingham for any decent shopping. The downtown area is being shaped up, however there is a wonky smell that comes out at night in downtown. The smell is something between sewage and a chicken house. There are a few breweries and bars but other than that there isn't really any night life. We have nothing to do other than a run down bowling alley and even more run down skating rink. If you want to purchase a used car, well come on down we have an abundance of those in questionable condition. The police are good for pulling people over for having a blown headlight, but not for things that actually impact the residential safety.

Living in Jasper, there isn't much to better your chance of success other than actually leaving. The only college within a 15 mile radius is BSCC. If you are looking for a university you have to travel towards Birmingham, Tuscaloosa or Florence.

My neighborhood, however, is relatively pleasant. The street I live on is relatively busy, considering I live just passed the only middle school in town and about a mile away from the best high school in the county. The schools (primary) supply a good general knowledge of things and the Football is always great!

There are many great people in Jasper, of course there are as many not great people. I would have to say my immediate family is very well rounded and a great group of people, along with my boyfriend and his family - who I love just as much as him.
I am 19 years old and I have lived in Jasper, Alabama my whole entire life. Overall, the town is amazing. Everything is so easy to find, the sights are beautiful, and for the most part everyone has a really good attitude. We have a few of the negative people around, but anywhere you go you are going to find those. It's the positive and friendly ones that get you past the whole idea of the other ones in the town. Everyone knows everyone here, which is the best part about living here. It is such a heart-warming felling when you walk into a local store and have so many friendly faces come to greet you by name. Jasper would be an ideal place to live if you want the home feeling of a town. It is never too loud and such a comfortable place to be.
