I just recently moved from Buckeye, Arizona to Janesville, Wisconsin and all I can say is the difference is amazing. Before, I had to drive 45 minutes to an hour to get to a shopping center and janesville has one only 5 minutes away from where I live. The city also has many businesses and local places that you can visit when you have free time. It has been an overall amazing experience!
Janesville's public transit system is a painful joke. The buses run every half hour, in a circuit/loop, beginning and ending at the transit center. Makes getting a second job nearly impossible; nobody actually pays-Janesville has a high disabled population. People without disabilities also use the bus, but who cares-The new buses are even less friendly to the target audience: fold your shopping carts; the steps to the rear of the bus are too steep. The seats are far too close so that one can easily view someone's phone over their shoulder-City planning commission doesn't know their audience, nor do they seem to care. Farmer's market outside of town where no one can access it. Dangerous river access in the middle of downtown-If you want to eat after 9:30, you better like pizza or maybe bar food, or have a car-Don't have liberal opinions, be PoC, or atheist-No real need to lock your doors or carry pepper spray.
It's really rich in history, but it lacks activities for younger people. Nice attractions for a weekend or two though. Very pretty downtown in the summer!
