The city has started some positive growth by updating our buildings and cleaning up. Usually everywhere you looked there was an abandoned building, but that's changing. However, being a teen in high school, there is a drastic lack of things to do in this city which leads students to cause trouble. Overall, this city has been my home my whole life but it is lacking spirit.
Small town U.S.A. where kids still throw the ball in the streets and we have street parties for families to get together. If anyone becomes ill, or loses a loved one, everyone comes to help with a wonderful show of support. We have a newer area of growth in industry and retail but also have a lovely historical downtown area that has been preserved for future generations.
Our school district strives and competes to be "blue ribbon" winners and finds pride in our academics and athletic achievements. I was in our marching band for 6 years and loved going to the competitions. Parents come to support us with their cameras and applause.
Year round we have things to do in our little town. Memories of the "big hill" to go sledding down, at our local county park, the Chili dog eating contest, and of course, summer time brings the "worlds largest" free fair with great rides and THE best food ever!
Fall is my favorite at home. Walking the red brick road with all the trees afire with beautiful autumn colors, the cool wind taking place of the hot humid summer, just fills me with awe and peace.
Come to Ionia, Michigan, see for yourself, the friendly hometown spirit is evident. You will be welcomed and see the family of this small town with rich history.

Ionia is a small town, which means there are postives and negatives about living here. A negative is that we have to drive longer if we work out of town, and that there is a lack of nightlife or similar things that you would find in a bigger city. It is big enough to have some restaraunts, salons, businesses and grocery stores, but there is not much to do in Ionia. Ionia is great for raising a family. It is very safe, and houses are affordable. Traffic in Ionia is very bad. Especially between 3:00 and 5:00 P.M. when most people come home from work.
