Due to Florida's humidity throughout the year, it makes the weather pretty miserable during the summer and early fall seasons. Hurricane season can be stressful and can cause millions of dollars in damage. Winter can be nice as it lacks the extreme cold of winter up north and can offer a nice relief from the heat. Some years are better than others in terms of tropical storms and hurricanes and there are times where we don't have a single serious hurricane hit during the season but there have been years in the past that have been particularly bad. Shorts and flip flops are pretty essential, as well as tank tops and t-shirts. Nearly everybody has some form of swim wear in their wardrobe, and jackets and coats tend to go unused most of the year. Another essential thing to leave the house with is an umbrella because you never know when it's going to rain.
Since several new restaurants have opened in the nearby area, dining options have expanded greatly. I am particularly fond of Ford's Garage as it provides customers with a unique dining experience that makes reference to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city, Henry Ford's winter home. The food there is also phenomenal. The Lazy Flamingo is another great local restaurant that has recently begun expanding to include a new location on the mainland. There are also a wide variety of options, from southwestern food, to pizza.
Fort Myers is a fantastic area to be outside and enjoying our natural beaches. Along the beaches are multiple shops that have kept the same owners since my mom was a child. In fact, my grandmother owns a restaurant by the beach and all the time that I've spent their, her customers have always been polite. Other restaurant owners will go to see and eat there which keeps the beach shop owners close, so when it's the snowbird season owners can be on top of sales.
