Hometown guy I'll say it, independence is corrupt but I wouldn't live anywhere else. Affordable housing with above average schools. Yes lots of crime on Western side duh it's a mile from KCMO limits. Independence MO is the first suburb of Jackson County and yes it's old but they are always building new. It's 120 square miles so you can be in one neighborhood and it's horrible but be only few miles away and pristine high property value neighborhood. I love this city and if it was good enough for Truman then good enough for me also. Yeah it was a meth city but blue springs and oak Grove have Tweakers too. Again, independence is a stone's throw from the East side of KCMO. If you don't like it here, you're probably the reason we are considered whatever you perceive independence to be.

Independence is a wonderful place to live! It's just about thirty minutes to everywhere and very centrally located. Preferences on living environments are numerous. There are so many types of living options ... suburbs, city, country, close neighbors, far away neighbors, good communities, etc. If you like night life or day life we have both! Independence is such a versatile community that caters to pretty much every preference there is.
I am a current resident of Independence. Altogether, I like where I live a lot. Anywhere you live will be an ideal place, you will never be far from somewhere to eat or a gas station. There is plenty here to do with several movie theaters and bowling alleys, the Independence mall, and other attractions such as Santa Cali Gon. I will have to admit that Independence is not the biggest or best suburb of Kansas City but it is pretty darn good. If I would have any apprehensiveness, it would be of safety at night time. Other than that, all is well!
