It is a small town with alot of restuarants! It has a 24 hour WalMart, but has 2 smaller grocery stores. Everyone waves, and they are cordial. Somewhat diverse in race, especially since it is in the southeastern corner of Oklahoma. It is surrounded by lakes, and is only about 10 minutes from Hochatown and Broken Bow lake which has wonderful scenery, Hiking, Ziplining, Duck Rides, Petting Zoos, Go carts, Mini golf, fishing, etc. It really does offer a lot of outdoor activities for families, it has a beautiful Golf Course, and another beautiful Golf Course in Hochatown. The local museum has family friendly and individual workshops, most are free. Most of the churches are very active within the community. In just a short 45 minute drive you can be in Texarkana, and on a plane or shopping at the mall. You can take scuba lessons in Broken Bow, or flying lessons at the Idabel Airport. That's just a few things. It has much more to offer.
It’s a small town but with modern commodities. Walmart, Lumber stores, Tractor Supply, Small mom/pop stores, Wstrn/work wear store. Several different restaurants most rank above or average. Plenty of summer activities up around Broken Bow (15min drive). The employment opportunities are there, most pay lower to average wages without college degree. Cost of living is very cheap in Idabel compared to most other places in 2019. Kind of like stepping back in time as to cost of living. A town that is continually growing and adding. My belief is they are one major employer away from an economic uptick. Definitely a place to consider living if you like the small town feel, and cheaper cost of living.
Although small, it makes you feel comfortable because you know almost everyone. Although some stores and buildings looks rundown, but it is actually very cozy. Most people grew up here, so it is a tight community.
