We love Hugo! It’s far enough out to have more of a rural/small town feel but only 25-30 minutes away from all the amenities Minneapolis and St. Paul offer. The elementary schools, North Star and Oneka, are both top notch. There’s a brand new park behind City Hall that is beautiful. There are some solid employers in town including Schweiters and Wilson Tool. And now there is a downtown Hugo development coming that will offer more restaurants and shopping options. The trail system through town is nice and it is great being only a 10 minute drive to 4 nice lakes (Forest, Big Marine, White Bear, and Bald Eagle). We’re so happy we moved here 6 years ago and are excited to see it continue to grow and develop.
This small town is vastly grown more and more over the course of 10-15 years I have been living here. It’s great to see young families build strong communities in fast growing populations. There are so many opportunities for new infrastructure and businesses as a result. This community and town will always have a place in my heart for its farming families and uprising suburban housing. Although it is a predominantly white population, there has been more inclusion in public housing making it more accessible for minorities to enjoy this amazing town. I would love to see more and more inclusion of minorities in our thriving community. For the most part the townspeople of Hugo are a welcoming and United community. I highly recommend visiting or taking a walk to take in the beautiful scenery of open farms, fields, and quiet neighborhoods.
It is small and has safe and convenient housing. As a student, I've enjoyed/heard good things about all of the nearby schools.
