The Hudson area has evolved into a unique type of suburb in the sense that it is an original standalone city only now included in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Prime illustration of this aspect is the juxtaposition of Hudson's quiet, beautiful, and historic downtown riverfront and the large commercial development located on top of the riverbank, out of view of the river. As a result, what cannot be found in Hudson (an increasingly small category) can easily be reached in the Twin Cities in less than 30 minutes.

There is a very good variety of stores. There is something to please everyone, for basically everything you need. If there happens to be a store that you need in particular that Hudson does not have, the cities are very near by so it is not a problem. There is a super Target, Menards, Home depot, Wal-mart, two grocery stores, plenty of gas stations, many restaurants, and plenty of little boutique home-town shops downtown.
There are crimes, but nothing too major. Police are very active, and there are many out and enforcing at all points of the day. There are certain areas where criminal activity would be more prevalent than others.
