Homewood is, quite simply, one of the best places in America to raise a family. Our truly integrated community that is welcoming and hospitable to people from all backgrounds, races, religions and beliefs is exactly the kind of place you want your children to grow up. We are fortunate to have a vibrant and easily accessible downtown area so our kids can have the freedom to ride their bikes to Dairy Queen or the ballpark or to one of our many street fests. Schools are great but not without some small challenges that teach children that the world isn’t always perfect but that it’s your perception & ability to work with what you have been given that counts. I will take that for my kids any day over a lily-white, elitist mentality!

Homewood is everything Illinois should be but isn’t. Great schools, small town feel. Safe neighborhoods and absolutely beautiful homes. And to be honest a more sophisticated approach to living as “white flight” doesn’t exist here, creating more of a California or New York small town feel as opposed to the normal all white non diverse cookie cutter Suburb that most suburbs in Illinois have. All nationalities come here and just flow seamlessly in a way that no other suburb has mastered in Illinois to date. The houses are historic and unique as you can drive through the whole town and never see the same style house twice. The shopping scene is pretty much the One of the best experiences in the south suburbs as over 67 stores paint the area in a way that doesn’t allow the tourist to disrupt the neighborhoods or the ecosystem of cleanliness and family privacy. People from Homewood just get it like nowhere else. That’s why it’s always high ranking.
Homewood has been my home for my entire life. I completed my education through Homewood Schools and Homewood-Flossmoor high school.
From movies in the park to Music for minors to art classes for all ages, our nationally recognized Park District caters to all interests and ages.
The best commercial aspects are the local restaurants and shops that create a quaint downtown. There are nationally recognized businesses, but they aren't what characterize Homewood. The quality of local businesses are what help the community thrive.
The sense of community in Homewood is it’s best quality. When problems occur, every resident searches for a solution. When a referendum was needed to keep the fine arts in our schools, every resident rallied around it,even if that meant an increase in local taxes.
I couldn't have asked for a better place to grow up. The sense of community, the schools, and the local organizations have made Homewood a safe and welcoming, and united community.
