The crime and safety in my area is extremely low. In my 14 years of living here, I can probably recall 5 incidents in the area that involved crime. The police hear are great, they respond fast, and they give lots of attention to any report that are filed. In my sophomore year of high school my house was egged by two classmates. My mother called the police to report the incident and they arrived at my house in less than 10 minutes. The officer that responded was very attentive and was immediately found out who the individuals were. I always feel safe in this area and I know that I will be protected in any situation!

The housing market here is great! Many houses get sold quickly and hold their value. The homes in the area are beautiful! Most are newer model homes, but there are older houses near the downtown area. I have never seen a house vacated or abandoned. There is really no bad place to in the area to buy a home. However, potential home owners must find out if the house floods. Flooded basements are the biggest issue with most homes in the area, especially they are located near woods or creeks.
Hobart is a very pleasant community. It's not that far from major cities like Merrillville and Chicago. Shopping is convenient and you get the best of both worlds when it come to food (Chicago has great food). What would be nice to see is a friendlier atmosphere. For example, people should always greet one another with a hello or a simple wave while crossing paths. This city also has a lot of room for growth, like larger businesses.
