Hobart is okay. It used to be somewhere I wanted to live forever, but now that I've gotten older, Hobart isn't very friendly. The environment is toxic, I'd say. There's lots of political clashes. There are lots of conservatives, but some liberals that argue A LOT. I admit, I've gotten in my fair share of political debates. The schools suck, they only care about their image and reputation. Hobart is not the most POC (person of color) friendly place. During a Black Lives Matter protest, there was an anti-Black Lives Matter protest where people branded their weapons. Hobart can be scary, but I've gotten used to expecting the unexpected here.
Hobart is a lovely place to live with a few nice stores and restaurants that are quite enjoyable. Living near portage and Merrilliville and only a 40 minute drive from Chicago is very convenient. When it comes to the people here and Hobart being known as "the friendly city," I completely disagree. Hobart seems to be divided into into the left and the right. It seems like nobody has respect for their neighbors and their opinions. If one neighbor is lighting of fireworks and the other neighbor asks them to quiet down, the next night you can expect them to light off more fireworks until later in the night just to spite them. I love living here, but I wish we had more respect for each other here.
Hobart is a wonderful city. With a very small and tight knit community, everyone knows everyone. The community values each other and with that being said, people in Hobart have respect for others. The individuals that make up this community have lived here most of their lives and continue to preserve this city. The city is becoming better and better due to all the love and care from the residents. With many small business and great places to visit, Hobart will keep you active. There are many activities to do in Hobart and many people to meet. These individuals will greet you with nothing but kindness and continue to accept others into the community.
