I grew up in the big city Houston Texas but now I live in Hitchcock. Hitchcock is a small, low income neighborhood located in Galveston County, Hitchcock has an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent, while The United Sates average unemployment rate is 3.9 percent. Hitchcock is one of the smallest cities I have ever lived in. Hitchcock is so small you would recognize a new face from a mile away, which takes some getting used to, but there are some things I love about it, like going outside and seeing all the kids playing, neighbors working in the yard, and even new houses being built, which reminds me that it is a regular neighborhood.

The city of Hitchcock is where I live and where I love to live. It has just shy of 9,000 residents, most of which are retired, but all of which are friendly and welcoming. Our motto is, “Home of the friendly people.” We tip our friends who work the drive through windows when we pull through for breakfast on our way to work. We stop for just a moment to have a conversation with our friends who work at our small local convenience stores. We help pay for our friends who are short a few dollars in line in front of us.

Hitchcock, home of the bulldogs, is a diverse city that welcomes people of all ages, cultures, colors, and hobbies. It is not easy to stop in our city and find that people aren't friendly and respectful. It only takes passing through a few stoplights to be in the next town, it took very few trips through for me to stop and decide to stay for years!
I live on the Santa Fe side of Hitchcok. I love when I am located. However, the city needs to make drastic improvements. One of the things I love about living where I do is that I can have my chickens. Our neighbors across the way have cows, horses and other farm animals.
