Hillsdale is a safe neighborhood with little to no crime. Friendly people. Active community. Top rated and excellent school system. Great sports and social programs for all ages Transportation a 30 minute drive by car and via Train/bus into town to NYC. The town has a solid, respected police department ,volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance services. Hillsdale supports /rallies around its residents in times of financial and health hardship. The Taxes are high as is most of Bergen County; but as always you get what you pay for! The town has a little bit for everybody.
I think Hillsdale is cute, I like the sense of community and how people know who I am. We have a swim club and some nice restaurants. But there isn't much to do in Hillsdale, we don't have a gym or popular shops. I wish Hillsdale became more activity-friendly. The school system is great and is filled with very open-minded teachers and students. As far a buying a house and commute times is fairly reasonable, house prices vary significantly so you can find a home within your price range. As far as commuting people can take the train into the city or drive. Large company towns aren't far away but not close enough that it is encroaching on your town. This is why I would give my town 3 stars, it is good but doesn't have many things to do besides eat food and go swimming.
Hillsdale is a very friendly, quiet neighborhood. Many people have pets/ livestock on my street, and we are a rather accepting community. All schools are easy to travel to and there is a good bussing system. There are always jobs readily available. As a teenage girl, I feel very safe when walking at night. The only exception is the section on Broadway Street that connects Hillsdale and Westwood.
