The quality of housing around here could be improved. There are not that many abandoned/vacant properties, but the ones that do exist bring down the appearance of a whole block. Many of the housing facilities in the neighborhood can be pretty reasonable cost wise, especially with them being located so close to the city.
Many of the people in this area have been around for years and take pride in the community and its appearance. On the other hand, those that are newer to the neighborhood do not take as much time out as the older community members to be concerned about the appearance of the neighborhood.
Crime is everywhere; it will find you. However, my general neighborhood is relatively safe (not that we sleep with unlocked doors and windows!). My neighbors look out for one another; we know who doesn't belong to the neighborhood and will take care to ensure that they're there for legitimate reasons (visiting, etc.). The police aren't often seen in the neighborhood unless needed, which isn't often.
