I love highwood! I’ve lived there my entire life the restaurant's are so good. and I especially love the carnival that come twice every year and I love the bakery at 316 Green Bay rd. sometimes there’s some firefighters and workers working on the roads and I don’t really care but the housing is pretty hard and I recommend visiting here.
Something I love about highwood is the sense of community that there is in the town. And the diversity that is around us all over the place. However I wish it was more capable of having more people of color and more diversity in the town. Due to lack of diversity there is an ongoing racisms in some schools. However the city of Highwood is very safe and it's a place I can always call home due to the culture that is always around.
Highwood Il is a small town 30 minutes north of Chicago. The residents are fun, friendly and ready to help each other out! They have a ton of fun events throughout the year such as bloody mary fest, pumpkin fest, wine and beer walk, Nash-wood, and so many others!
Highwood is a slice of heaven in the burbs. It has all the amenities you can ask for in a town - lively walkable downtown with boutiques, bars and restaurants galore; beaches, public transportation, forest preserves and bike trails. Best of all, it has more festivals than you can shake a stick at. Couple that with a mix of housing options, great schools and diversity; it's the best city in the suburbs!
Town becoming gentrified. Not a large variety of services for elderly, or those at risk. No developed park district system.
Safety is great. Crimes there are some but not many to my knowledge. Police are quite visible every time I'm driving throughout the village.
