Hesperia Reviews
Rating 3.42 out of 5 308 reviews
I've lived in the high desert for almost 27 years. The area has gradually gotten more dangerous, unfortunately. But not nearly as bad as Victorville. There is, however, decent housing and property sizes with better prices than most of California. The area is certainly more diverse partly because of the lower property costs. The roads are pretty rough due to the inconsistent weather but I'm used to it so I rather enjoy the wild weather. Despite the problems, the views of the desert and mountains are amazing and you can be in the mountains within half an hour. Additionally, there are many hiking trails and hot springs. Furthermore, there are great areas for horseback riding, quad riding, and dirt biking.
Living in the high desert is defiantly different than living in the city of Los Angeles. It did take some time getting used to but I learned to love how much quieter the environment is compared to the noisy streets of LA and how much more we were able to obtain property wise. Rent was expensive in LA, especially for my single working mother, but since the move we've been much more relaxed and my mother is closer to her job. I will say the the only down fall of living in Hesperia is the weather, summers and winters can be brutal without air conditioning or a heather. Apart from that living here has been amazing and my favorite part definitely has to be watching the sunset. Beautiful colors grace the sky until all that's left is the starry night sky with a magnificent view of the moon.
I’m not sure who wrote the description about Hesperia, but it’s wildly inaccurate. Most people who live here are conservative (not liberal) and the public schools are absolutely below average. Close to half the population are renters. It’s a low income desert town but does have some charm. I grew up here, moved away for college and eventually came back to be near family. So I’ve lived here longer than not. The sunsets are beautiful and it’s definitely more affordable than most places in CA. It has grown exponentially in the last several decades. The infrastructure leaves much to be desired and it’s becoming far more crowded, but you can still get a decent piece of land. We have seasonality which is nice, a dry hot summer and cold winter with occasional snow. There is a drug problem in this desert that is worse the more remote you live. We have big box stores and most chain restaurants. It sometimes has the feeling of being a small town, while actually being rather large.
