Lived and owned my home in Hazel Crest since 1987. Was an excellent place to live when I first moved here and many year after. Has been gradually going down in the past 10-15 years with little or no police presence in the neighborhoods and a lot of owners renting homes to Section 8 renters - who does not take care of the property they are renting. Luckily, I was able to send my kids to private schools (took a lot of sacrifice and struggling). Tree service is year round but, it takes several years to get service. I've been waiting since 2017.
Hazel Crest is a small community that is mostly peaceful and affordable. The presence of a hospital, modern surgery center, retail pharmacy, parks, and several grocery stores in Hazel Crest are of great benefits, making it a good place to live. However, more businesses are needed in the area and the public schools need some improvements.
While living in Hazel Crest, I rarely see any festivals or community service being advertised here. The only festival, that is somewhat common here is the firework show but, even that isn’t guaranteed to happen every year. I would like for the community to advertise and promote more activities and events for the residents to participate in. The only thing I can say that’s worth doing here, is holding picnics and family reunions at the park district during the summer. It’s spacious and overall has a pleasant scenery of green fields. It’s incredibly relaxing to walked the trails every now and then to witness the nature.
