A wonderful suburban town in which to grow up. There are numerous parks, trails, and swimming pools. The Town of Haymarket features an assortment of small businesses and restaurants, however most food options are chain restaurants. There are sidewalks in almost every neighborhood for walking and biking as well. In the area, many of the neighborhoods are gated communities. These neighborhoods are very close to all of the schools and sports facilities. Haymarket is also in close proximity to shopping and restaurants in Gainesville and the city of Manassas.
Haymarket, Virginia is a lovely place. There may be the occasional car-jackers and bears who will try to steal on a small scale, but overall, it is very safe. With many neighborhoods to choose from--all with tight-knit communities-- it's a great place for families. The school systems surrounding the area are also of good quality. It is also close to DC, the mountains, and only a couple hours from the nearest beach or lake. The area itself is well kept with new roads and well-kept grass. Something new is always being built in this growing city. You should be able to find whatever you need here.
Haymarket is a great place to live in and there is always something to do. Depending on where you are, the downtown is easily accessible by walking or biking and there are a lot of good restaurants. Personally, my favorite restaurants here are Eugene's and Giuseppe's. You can get to D.C. in 45 minutes without traffic, and the Metro and VRE are also options. Being close to the city doesn't exclude you from being in nature though, as it isn't far from Skyline Drive and the Shenandoah River.
