For as quaint as this little town can be, especially with the lake so close by, it is still struggling economically, and socially. Some say the school district is good for the area. But, for the area, is the key phrase. Although a good student at the high school there, I still was far behind in many areas once I got to college. Hawley May be a nice place to exist if one prefers an isolated and sheltered way of life.
This is a good town with a good school (Wallenpaupack). Crime rate is very very low and it’s very quiet.
very peaceful and quiet with kind and caring citizens. The only downfall is that you must drive long distances to get gas or food.
Hawley Pennsylvania is a quaint little town with various outdoor activities for people of all ages. The biggest attraction is Lake Wallenpaupack which is beautiful and highly recommended to visit if you travel to this area.
Hawley is a nice little town. There is a lot to do outside such as hiking, biking, etc. Nearby there is the city of Scranton and the town of Honesdale.
I have lived in Hawley my entire life, and I feel that it is a very nice place to live. I go to a great school, one of the best in our area, and there are many fun activities and shops to go to and do, including the Wallenpaupack lake, a park, and many others. Both of my parents have steady jobs in the area and a steady income so we can live happily and healthy in a great area. We also have a great economy due to tourism in the summer with our lake and historical sites.
This is a cute quaint town. Great park for kids and lots of family activities. Great small businesses line the streets to spend a day shopping. They also have the best Chinese food in the area.
My family moved to Hawley when I was in middle school and we don't have any regrets. I loved Wallenpaupack Area School District; the teachers were amazing and helpful and it was a great experience. The area is tranquil and there's a lot to do outdoors such as go to the lake, go hiking or to parks. Although the area doesn't have much else like stores or shopping areas, there is a mall about 40 mins away in Scranton, PA. If you're looking for nightlife or other activities you can travel to Scranton or Milford, both are an easy drive. I would say that Hawley is not the best area for jobs and growth; however, it is a good place to raise a family. The cost of living is fairly low and the people in general are friendly and kind. I don't see myself living here for much longer, but I would definitely come back to relax here in the future.
I grew up in this town for about eighteen years and I have seen the good and bad side of it. Overall the school district is very good with academics but teachers and social life is low due to the amount of bias in the town. Besides that it is a tourist destination in the summer and offers so many things to do including boating, swimming and even one of the most well known family resort called Woodloch.
Lake Wallenpaupack is very nice. It creates wonderful aquatic experiences during the summer time. During the Fall, there are also activities to participate in. During the Winter there is a Winterfest and Ice Fest which encompass any and all activities in the area. However, due to the unpredictable Pennsylvania weather, the activities sometimes get postpones or canceled. The restaurants in the surrounding area are wondering.
Hawley has a great small town feel with a Main Street lined with small businesses. There are many opportunities in the area for those who enjoy outdoor activities. Hawley is near Lake Wallenpaupack which is very active with tourist traffic, especially during the summer months with boating and other lake activities.
I like this area. It's really only good if you enjoy the outdoors because that's most of what there is to do here. They are improving in small ways but it's really difficult to get it going.
Violence is not very prevalent but the illegal sale and use of drugs in the area increases as time goes on, making drugs like heroin especially more prevalent. Several deaths in the past couple years in this area are due to heroin overdoses.
The town is small enough to walk to almost any destination. There has been a fairly recent increase in drug related crime. In general people of the town come together to fix problems and get things done.
