Visiting the city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi would be a great experience for those visiting in the surrounding areas. It is a very nice, clean and friendly place. Those that live their are very nice and always willing to help you. It reminds me of a big city as far as shopping is concerned. In one stretch of highway, there are so many different stores to choose from. The Fast Food restaurants, gas stations, lodging, home improvement, and the SUPER Walmart that attracts everyone from the city to the rural areas. I enjoy living in the city of Hattiesburg, because growing up on the East Coast, 20 minutes outside of New York City, there was always traffic jams, too much crime and the feeling of being overcrowded. Here, it's less hustle and bustle and more of a vacation feeling. So, I chose Hattiesburg, because out of all the other cities and small towns I have visited in the state of Mississippi, I enjoy the fresh air, the maintenance of properties and highways. NO PLACE LIKE HOME.
I lived there June 2015-July 2019 & am moving back soon. It is my favorite town in Mississippi! Perfect size, something to do every. Single. Day. Plenty of family-friendly activities. Nightlife is good unless you're looking for straight-up big-city clubbing. Cool underground bars & coffee shops. Great places to eat. Plenty of places to live. Generally felt safe, but I know the crime rate in some areas of town is pretty high. Plenty of churches if you're Christian like me. If not, there's at least one Islamic Center of which I know. Very dog friendly, very diverse. Great music and arts scene. 100% reccomend!!!
Hattiesburg is fairly average at best. There are not very many places that appeal to a younger audience. The roads here are not that great with quite a few potholes here and there. However, the area here is very affordable, which makes it a very appealing place for those seeking somewhere with low cost of living. Additionally, while there are not many places that attract younger audiences, Hattiesburg does occasionally host events in downtown Hattiesburg known as HubFest.
