What like about Hattisberg is that there is a lot to do as far as activities, shopping, restaurants and schools to choose from. Living in a small town I like spending time in Hattisberg on the weekends. The city of Hattisberg seems to be an upcoming town with a lot of diverse group of people and it is rich in southern culture. The university of southern Mississippi campus I feel will bring great education opportunities for me.. when I went to visit this past summerthe staff made us feel so welcome with so many activities to do. I would love to be considered for this scholorship. THANK YOU!

My experience growing up in Hattiesburg was mixed. I enjoyed most of Hattiesburg. It is a great University town with the University of Southern Mississippi taking up a major part of the town. The love of the locals for the school really shows around the area. Unfortunately if you go to East Hattiesburg, you can tell it's really left unattended which is a shame given Hattiesburg High School is in this area. It's not a safe place to walk alone where as it is encouraged in West Hattiesburg/near the University. I hope Hattiesburg evolves and begins to take care of the entire town and not just the part visiting sports teams see. There is an enormous amount of history in the forgotten area of Hattiesburg and it is my belief and hope it is not left in it's vagabond state.
From living in this growing city my whole life, I know that Hattiesburg is a very special place. There are numerous restaurants, well priced, that offers all kinds of cuisines. Several events take place throughout the week such as festivals, sporting events, fundraisers, burlesque shows, opera, wine tastings, and much more. Since it's a University Town, home of Southern Miss, the night life has much to offer. The residents of Hattiesburg are kind, well mannered Southern folks. I love this city!
