There's no place like home. Harvey has been my home for the past 25 years. I have been born and raised in Harvey, IL and I wouldn't change it for a thing. I owe the best childhood memories to this city. Being actively involved in extracurricular activities and in the community at a young age. Recently, Harvey has not been a positive area to visit. Businesses are failing, violence is increasing and schools are closing. I would love to see change. Harvey is in need of a change. I would love to see children playing outdoors again, being able to shop locally and to enjoy a safe evening at a community event. Harvey is capable of being great again, if the residents including myself are all on board for changing the city for the better.
Harvey is a small city outside of Chicago that is low income. Potholes in the streets everywhere, abandoned homes, homes that caught on fire years ago with the wood still sitting there, barely any grocery stores but many corner stores, and you see police lights almost every night. But with all this being said, I love my city because I grew up here and the people that grew up here can see that it has potential. Maybe if someone just picked up a piece a trash somewhere or maybe if we call city hall enough times then we could get a pothole fixed.
It could be way safer than what it is. It’s very dangerous most of the time. I do not recommend living out here. It is a place I would like to get away from. It’s the reason why I would like to go away to college, to get out of harvey.
