We just retired here. Best decision we ever made. So peaceful. No traffic. Love exploring the nature that's all around us. Our neighbors are wonderful people. A real hidden gem in this great northwest.
The Pacific Northwest is a beautiful area with in intricate overlap of marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Unfortunately, there has been a huge increase in development in the past ten years from in influx of people from California. The past few years have been full of massive amounts of logging and development of forested areas that damaged the forest ecosystem, resulting in many animals such as deer, bears and raccoon to interact with humans at an increasing rate. Because of this occurrence many conservation groups have been formed and hundreds of acres of forest and wetland have been saved and turned into nature reserves. I live on the Olympic Peninsula, which has many close knit communities. There is an abundance of trails, beaches, waterways, lakes, and national parks to explore and utilize. It is a beautiful and diverse location that I value as my home.
My neighbor hood has a higher crime rate in the summer when many families are on vacation. Burglaries are usually not major and are often resolved quickly.
