Hampton is underrated; we are a creative community with beautiful surroundings and several activities to be involved in. The Hampton roads consist of beaches and family areas for working class people. Similar to New York, Hampton is a melting pot filled with several cultures and races from around the world. Hampton is diverse and offers great opportunities for families and those who are starting off with a family. If you are a shopper, Hampton is the place for you, we provide several shopping centers and unique places for dinning. If indoors is not a priority on your list, we also provide several parks for children and or a romantic night out. The education system in Hampton seems to be unique as well! We have wonderful schools that children can attend close to their families. Lastly, Hampton is full of churches for those that embrace their religious identity. There are several places to worship in Hampton rather you are Pentecostal or Baptist, Hampton has several places for you.
Hampton is a small city in the Tidewater area. Hampton is mostly known for the Hampton Coliseum, Convention Center, and its beaches. I've lived here my whole life and appreciate this city. Hampton is always improving each year from public education, public events, and public relations! Of course, there are still many down sides to Hampton. Like most cities, it's not safe at night and traffic can be heavy.
Hampton was home for me and my family for years. We relocated to Plano, TX. I think I stayed in Hampton so long because I have a lot of family in the area. As my family increased I didn't feel Hampton was the place to raise my family. Crime has increased everywhere but it felt like it skyrocketed in this area. The school were so so depending on who your teacher was that year. The housing situation to me the cost of living isn't too bad but you don't have a lot of space. So that's the downsize. A two bedroom but 700 square feet isn't worth 1300-1500/mo. Police presence is heavy. It just feels like something is always going on here. Not a lot of healthy supermarket options. Commuting was a complete nightmare. I worked in Norfolk but even driving around Hampton certain times of day the city streets were congested not just the interstate. It was not good. Sometimes you could be in traffic to get on the interstate 40 minutes moving slower that molasses.
