This is a great place to live: clean air except for smoke season in summer, close to the ski mountain, close to bike trails wherever you live, and great people. Not very diverse though, extremely close-minded people can definitely be found here. However, it is very safe, nothing you have will ever get stolen. It really just is an affluent ski community, so if you need to rent something affordable and have a minimum wage job- good luck.
Niche says median rent in Hailey is $726?? I would like to know are they talking about a subsidized apartment or market rate? If you look at the classifieds, the median rent seems more like 2500 dollars. There is a housing shortage currently here with very few affordable rentals available unless you’re willing to wait 1-2 years for a spot in one of the government buildings. The town is good for a quick visit but not for living long term. Not many things to do here.
Perfect mountain town for people who love the outdoors and not too many people, but still want a great cultural environment, great businesses, restaurants, schools, etc. There is a great community spirit here and a lot of fascinating America old-west history. My grandma was born and raised here and never stopped loving it. It is just a beautiful valley during every season.
